Early 1800's Pipe Tomahawk Axe Native Indian Origin Forged Metal Head

  

This pipe tomahawk is all original and un-restored. A very rare and desirable forged head originating from a 18th century gun barrel, really beautiful. The viewer can see the lap weld line on the blade.

A lap weld is used when a hardened bit is inserted into the blade. There are remains of a hide gasket between the eye of the head and haft. Rifling marks can still be seen inside the octagonal bowl. Very nice ash haft with a beautiful mellow brown/orange color. The haft is very long giving this tomahawk a menacing look. Originates from a Washington DC estate, a very old estate with ties to the wild west days. 26.5 inch long stem and head is 9.75 inches long.
