Early 20th Century Plains Native North American Drum. An unusual, late 19th to early 20th Century, North American Plains Native drum in very good condition. The drum is the more unusual carved circular wooden bowl, with a central hole. The wood looks like elm or oak.
The leather cover has been stretched and pinned into place with willow or hazel pointed sticks, as well as tied to a piece of old fence wire with raw died cords. The drum is medium to large sized and still sounds nice and taught. This style of construction is documented in museums as belonging to the Plains Indians, although we are not sure which tribe it belongs to. The drum comes with a piece of wood to strike with. Size: 48 x 18cm (19 x 7 inches) Weight: 2929g.
