This painting titled "Ceremony at Teckic Rock", depicts an ancient rock formation, thrust upward by tectonic activity over millions of years ago and carved by the elements, This geological wonder is located in the Indian Canyons of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians ancestral homeland in the Palm Springs region. This "Teckic rock, or "Cave rock in the native Cahilla language, was used for various sacred ceremonies by the Shaman and members of the Cahuilla tribe and is still used for those purposes today, with non-native access only granted by tribal elders and an escorted tribal representative.
This rock formation has a modern unofficial name of "Pride Rock" and is rumored to be Disney's inspiration for Pride Rock in the famous Loin King animation film.
