EARLY Santo Domingo Turquoise Nugget & White Heishi Bead SQUAW Necklace

This is an excellent condition and very early Fred Harvey Era Santo Domingo Royston turquoise nugget and white heishi bead string wrapped necklace. This is as basic and early as Indian jewelry making was AND is all hand made!!!!! The holes in the stones and heishi were "Hand Pumped" meaning they were made by hand and not modern machine drilled. Hand pump is a term used to denote that the Indians used the old hand cranked drill to make the beads. You can tell by the unevenness of the hole opening where the drill was not able to start the hole immediately (See last picture).

The Royston turquoise has a variety of color from light green blue to darker green blue with wonderful golden brown matrix. The largest nugget measures 22mm long and 18mm wide.

The ends before the squaw hand tied wrap starts has 1.5 inch of white heishi. The necklace measures approximately 27 inches and weighs 68 grams. There is one small area on the wrap where the string is slightly loose from wear. The necklace IS structurally sound.
