On offer is an authentic, handsome vintage NAVAJO/HOPI Native American. 925 sterling silver B OLA / BOLO TIE adorned with a mythic Thunderbird motif crafted in the classic overlay technique for which the Hopi are renowned and is decorated with hand stamped motifs. The BOLA / BOLO is hallmarked S TERLING but is not marked for maker which was quite common in earlier Native American jewelry prior to 1970's. We believe this BOLA / BOLO tie was created circa 1960 or perhaps earlier. This traditional Thunderbird BOLA / BOLO TIE was crafted with attention to detail and is in very good vintage condition (please see ALL photos for an accurate detailed depiction).

The Thunderbird is on an oxidized (darkened) ground. Any other colors or marks are reflections.

This piece has the early wire loop fasteners, the first type made by Southwest Native Americans. The loops are in good working order. This BOLA / BOLO is attached to braided black leather cord that remains strong, supple, clean and wearable.

36" long i ncluding 1 1/2" long decorative silver tips. Overall, the Thunderbird BOLA / BOLO plaque measures approx. 1 3/8" long x 1 1/4" tapering to 1/2 wide. As a rule, the smaller the bolo the earlier, see photo of bolo creator Vic Cedarstaff from the book BOLA TIE by "Bola Bill" Kramer.

The BOLA / BOLO tie including cord weighs 23.3 grams.
