This is a quartzite stone artifact used as a grinding stone. Previously, the object was part of a prominent Native American collection held in Townsend, Tennessee. It was recovered from the Little River, Townsend, Tuckaleechee Cove area. It measures roughly 9" x 8" at its widest points and is very heavy.

Nutting stones are presumed to have been used for crushing nuts. Though, we believe this piece is better described as a grinding stone due to its size.

Nutting stones are typically smaller and easily transported. Please note that the bonsai shears shown in the photo are only provided as a reference for the size of the object.

Please note that we do not import or export ancient items. Additionally, our items typically come from people and businesses that we know and trust.
