This is a beautifully woven wonderful old Navajo wedding basket. It is in very good condition for its age and has a great old patina. It measures approximately 13 1/4 across. The wedding baskets were used in ceremony and have a lot of symbolism.
The line from the center of the basket to the outer rim is there to remind you that no matter how much darkness you encounter in your world, there is always a pathway to the light. During ceremonies this opening will be pointed towards the east and when the basket is hung on the wall it will be pointing upward. The item "OLD VTG NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN NAVAJO HANDWOVEN WEDDING BASKET UTE EARLY 13" is in sale since Sunday, March 24, 2019.
