Pomo baskets are renowned masterpieces of Native American craftsmanship, created by the Pomo people-an indigenous group from Northern California, spanning areas like Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake Counties. The term "Pomo" encompasses multiple tribes (around 30 small groups) known for their exceptional basketry, which includes everything from massive burden baskets capable of holding four people to incredibly tiny "super miniature" pieces that rival the size of a grain of rice. These super miniatures, often under 1 inch in diameter, exemplify the weavers' extraordinary skill, patience, and precision, with designs so intricate they require magnification to fully appreciate.
