RARE Early Zuni LEEKYA DEYUSE Turquoise Carved Fetish Bear Pendant With Necklace

  

Leekya Deyuse (Leek-yah Day-you-see), was the most well known and one of the finest fetish carvers in the history of Zuni. Born in 1889, Leekya created beautiful fetish necklaces, carved animals (table fetishes) of assorted stones, turquoise figurines and fetishes set in jewelry. Leekya Deyuse is one of the most famous and sought after Zuni Fetishists of all time. His animal figures, necklaces and turquoise figurines that are still distinctive among fetish carvings and highly valued. His work is displayed in museums and collections across the country.

This Museum piece is a rare early example of Deyuse's craftwork. Notice Deyuse's distinctive turquoise fetish Bear carving design. Most of his carvings are strung into necklaces so as a pendant this is an extremely rare find. This super rare early Deyuse small hand carved pendant is a "must have" for you serious Zuni carving collectors.

The pendant is set on a gorgeous 17 turquoise heishi necklace. I added plenty of pictures including measurements & weight for you to see. I've been a collector for a few decades have noticed that Deyuse carvings like this hardly surface the public for sale.
