Searcy Dart Point / Hafted Knife 2 5/8 Colorful Quartzite Searcy Co Arkansas
This gemmy relic measures at 2 5/8" x 15/16" x 3/8 and has bifacial percussion followed by collateral pressure flaking resulting in a median ridge on one face with a strong left- hand bevel on the other face. Blade is asymmetrical from subsequent ancient resharpenings while condition is very good with typical use wear, G6-7 Quality. Was reportedly found on private property located in Searcy County, Arkansas, x Mike Peeler Collection. The stone has a nice devitrified luster with a medium grain crystalline texture that has a shimmer in sunlight. Reminds me of Hixton quartzite which is possible that this stone is related given that glaciers did carry rocks from up north and deposited them as glacial moraines which Native Americans did exploit for tool stone sources. The edge pressure flaking is nice and even on one face and it is clear when studying this relic that the maker created different angle bevels for different utilitarian purposes.
