SUPER SCARCE original photo "Zuni INDIAN SQUAWS" Native American RPPC early 1900s. This is a super rare vintage photograph from the early 1900s entitled Zuni Indian Squaws. I have scoured the internet for the photograph's title and done reverse image searches on Google, Bing and Tineye and can find no other known copies of it, or mention of it, with the exception of a small pamphlet where this image was published on the cover (see my last photograph in this listing for a photo of the pamphlet; please note that the pamphlet is not included with this listing and is provided for illustration purposes only). If someone can point me to other copies or mentions of this image, I would love to see them. The photograph shows two Zuni Indian Squaws, each holding a young child. The squaws are wrapped in traditional Zuni fringed-blankets which also surround the children. Underneath the blankets, the squaws wear long white dresses and white wrappings around their legs with unadorned moccasins. The real photo postcard (RPPC) doesn't indicate who the photographer was but the number "62" is printed within the image along with the title, indicating that whoever took the image had a group of additional numbered images. Another curiosity is the handwritten sentence on the back which says, Why 8 S's are needed. What that means, I have no idea, and an internet search for the phrase also came up empty. The 3¼" x 5¼" original photograph is printed on silver chloride photographic postcard paper of the era called Azo which is notated in the "Place Stamp Here" area on the back. There are also a couple of very thin vertical cracks in the surface to the right of the caption (see photo) and some silver mirroring visible in the shadow areas when held at an oblique angle to the light (common on most silver-based photographs from this era). The back of the photograph is soiled and there are some paper remnants stuck to one edge. The photograph is guaranteed to be a vintage original (not a reproduction) from the early 1900s.
