Suzy Belle Doll Hualapai Native American Cloth Doll Early 1970's. The doll is in excellent condition with no odors detected. I can't say if it was exposed to animals in the home but no animal hairs seen. This Hualapai doll is dressed in a blue flowered dress with fringe trim attached. Her face has sewn details and possibly inked as well.

She is marked on her backside and numbered. Suzy Belle Dolls are patterned after the original design from Annie Chase. A seamstress in the 1860's, she made and gave these dolls for gifts. Her granddaughter, Ruth Underwood, improved on the pattern and developed her own fabrication process and together with her husband opened a factory in Peach Springs, AZ. Employing as many as 20 Hualapai tribal members that produced an avg of 59 dolls per day.
