I'm offering a delicate looking, but sturdy, very graceful Thunderbird, sometimes unfortunately called Hopi Bird bolo. It was made by the renowned Jeanette Niiha, who signs her work JJ Niiha and she signed a matching bracelet I have available separately in my store but the bolo isn't signed. I'll be happy to provide a nice deal for both (also a separately available ring) as they are a swell set. She is discussed in the major and minor books about Native American jewelry.

She is one of only seven Hopi Bird artists who use not only the round eye we see on the bolo but also the larger triangular eye we see on my bracelet and ring, who was chosen for discussion in one of the books, though distinguishing artists by the size and shape of the eyes is not an accurate distinction. Many used many sizes and shapes of eyes. This lovely bolo is more subtle in coloration than it appears in the pictures and it's really lovely. This is a small bolo, typical of very early pieces.

The height of the slide is 1.5" and width just under 1". The tips about 1-1/16" high and the cord with the tips is a total of about 33". The piece is made with all natural stones and both channel and mosaic inlay. There is twisted wire framing the upper part of the wings and the crest as well as the side pieces, which are beautiful. She uses a round eye for the bird in this piece and the aesthetics are terrific.

It is not market which is usual in the old pieces but it is sterling silver. Not signed by the artist but it is indisputably her work. It is a lovely small bolo and wonderful to wear with the bracelet and ring. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. Take a look at my store. Yes, I sometimes can take reasonable offers. I care that you're happy and about my accuracy, and will always stand behind my work. My attributions are guaranteed for my lifetime. When I include pages from published books in my listings it is in accordance with Fair Use Law, which permits the use of source material for discussion, reference, education and criticism.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you're starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift.

My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
